DrupalCon Washington DC

Youth Agora attends major developer conference in the US

Peter and Antonio from Youth Agora packed their bags to leave for DrupalCon DC, a major developer conference around Drupal, the open-source content management system Youth Agora is using in most of its projects (for example, we've built the ESN Satellites or the master templates for the European Campus with Drupal). We came to Washington DC to:

  • learn about the future of Drupal; used more and more by major companies (such as Warner Bros, Nike, NASA, Yahoo, United Nations, Amnesty International and many other) all around the world, Drupal is quickly growing out to become the number one open-source system to build websites
  • learn about modules for Drupal that could be used in our projects
  • establish contacts with developers, companies and research groups using Drupal

In short, the conference was absolutely overwhelming. Over 1400 dedicated developers, designers and business entrepreneurs gathered for four days in the convention center of Washington to talk about Drupal.

Session topics ranged from building modules for Drupal to showcases of large websites built with Drupal, to the semantic web, OpenID, new search strategies within Drupal and much, much more. While most sessions were rather technical, a couple of them delved into non-technical topics such as 'The Business of Open Source'. It seemed that the entire Drupal business world was not too much affected by the economical recession, even to the contrary as most Drupal companies were hiring!

We were very happy to be part of this conference, and look out for the next DrupalCon in Paris. If you want to know about the sessions we attended, read my DrupalCon report.
